ASCE 40 rail, also known as 40 lb rail, is a standard rail type that complies with the specifications of the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance Association (AREMA). "40" means weight per yard, i.e. 40 lbs/yard. It is mainly used in railway systems and industrial crane rails for medium speeds and medium loads.
